Prince William: Rumors of the Rhys William affair, long ignored by mainstream media since Kensington Palace’s denial, were reported by major news outlets after being ridiculed on American television.
The palace’s public relations crisis over Duchess Kate’s absence from public appearances spiraled further out of control after Late Show host Stephen Colbert addressed the drama on Wednesday’s episode.
Social media is awash with wild conspiracy theories based on the fact that there has been no clear, reliable image of Kate since Christmas Day and that the only officially released photo has been doctored.
Long-standing rumors of an affair have led to widespread speculation that the pair may be secretly divorcing, but this is unsubstantiated and denied by the palace.
Colbert began by saying, “The disappearance of Duchess Kate has thrown the state into complete chaos.” It added: “Internet sleuths are speculating that Duchess Kate’s absence may have something to do with her husband’s relationship with her future King William of England.”

The gossip first became public knowledge in 2019 when The Sun published an article reporting that Kate had fallen out with her country neighbour.
Days later, a more detailed rumor was spread by gossip magazine In Touch, after which Mahal told reporters the story was “completely inaccurate and false,” according to The Daily Beast. reported.
Since then, mainstream British media and many US outlets have avoided getting involved in the gossip, even after an Instagram post detailing rumors about Prince William’s summer 2022 wedding went viral.
In doing so, he sacrificed travel expenses, or money, in honor of the palace’s insistence that the rumors were false. But now the Guardian, a serious news brand, has published this rumor.
This gossip entered the common consciousness of many Britons years ago as it was widely circulated on social media, although there was no evidence to support it. In other words, none of these stories were reported as news.
But they serve as a barometer of how much journalists respect and even fear the palace. Based on recent developments, not as much as in 2019.
Now, whatever efforts the palace does to quell the rumors, it will have to contend with the fallout from a doctored photo of Kate released by aides on March 10.
