Morocco will face Democratic Republic of Congo at the Stade de San Pedro on Sunday in the second group stage match of the African Cup of Nations 2023 (AFCON).

Morocco, Africa’s highest-ranked team in the FIFA rankings (13th), made a strong start to the season with a comfortable 3–0 win over Tanzania despite having a player sent off in the 70th minute.

Captain Romain Saiss broke the deadlock in the 30th minute and Azzedine Onahi and Youssef En-Nesyri scored three minutes apart in the second half to seal victory for the 1976 AFCON champions.

The Democratic Republic of Congo had a relatively slow start and ended in a 1–1 draw with Zambia. Kings Kanwa broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute and Zambia took the lead. Four minutes later, Congo equalized through Yohan Wissa off an assist from Cedric Bakambu.

A win for Atlas Lions will guarantee them a place in the final, but Democratic Republic of Congo will need to avoid losing this match to keep their hopes of reaching the final alive.
