Kate Middleton and Prince William ‘played down’ Louis’ cancer news and had ‘difficult conversations’ with George and Charlotte

Kate Middleton and Prince William “embellished” their health problems by breaking the news to their youngest son, Prince Louis, according to King Charles’ former butler.

The Princess of Wales, 42, revealed last week that she was undergoing chemotherapy after doctors discovered she had cancer during a planned stomach operation in January.

The royal made the decision to announce the news to the public on this particular day as it aligned with the Easter break of her and William’s three children: Prince George, aged 10, Princess Charlotte, aged 8, and Prince Louis, aged 5, just before they went on holiday from school.

And since Lewis was much younger than his siblings, the couple undoubtedly approached the situation less straightforwardly.

“I can imagine the exchange between the children was quite challenging and distinct,” Grant Harrold, who served alongside Charles for seven years during his time as Prince of Wales, shared exclusively with The Post.

“For example, I think Lewis probably enjoyed the conversation more than George and Charlotte did.”

“Older kids can understand more, so I think it was a little more obvious, but of course it stayed positive, which is very important,” he explained.

“That’s why when you see a photo of Kate with her three children now, it brings tears to your eyes. This is an important conversation for any mother and you can imagine that Charlotte and George will be great helpers.”

Harold said that because Lewis is so young, it is reasonable to assume that he “probably doesn’t understand too much” about his mother’s situation.

“It’s hard work,” he tells us. “I’m sure the kids will deal with it as any child would, but I think their parents are very good at staying calm and collected, and I think that rubs off on the kids.”

The Post reached out to Kensington Palace for a statement.

While Middleton receives ongoing treatment, her parents, Michael aged 74, and Carole Middleton aged 69, are steadfastly supporting their grandchildren through this period of uncertainty.

Ever since the Prince and Princess of Wales settled in Windsor permanently last year, Carole and Michael have had the opportunity to spend increased quality time with their grandchildren.

The couple live in Berkshire, England, just 40 minutes from Windsor.

Over the weekend, Middleton and William left Adelaide Cottage in Windsor by helicopter to take their children to Anmer Hall on the Sandringham estate for the Easter holidays.

The family will holiday at the residence, where they are expected to meet King Charles III, 75, who is also battling cancer.

It appears the couple will be breaking from tradition by not joining the rest of the royal family for Easter services this year.

Instead, they will spend a long weekend together behind closed doors.

Charles, for his part, will be attending a small Easter service with his family, which will be on a much smaller scale than in previous years.
