Despite some players showing hopeful signs, Arsenal will still have to deal with absences as they try to win points

Mikel Arteta has not been clear about the specific players most likely to feature against Burnley. “The update is that some of them are progressing better than others,” he said of the current injured players. “They’ve done a few of those tasks this week, and I really hope we can have some of them completed by tomorrow.

Arteta provided more information on players with major injuries: “Thomas Partey is also progressing very well. I don’t want to say much but he looks very good and he’s already on the field. “He’s very close (to returning)… he’s in a good place,” he said of Fabio Vieira. Arteta also hinted at Vieira’s return against Porto on Tuesday: “There is a possibility.”

Arteta acknowledged the challenges ahead and emphasized the impact of injuries on the team’s depth. “We have to take it game by game because in some situations the last few weeks we really didn’t have a choice,” he said.

“We had to play with them, we didn’t have other players to do that and we had the opportunity to make some changes during the games and adjust the minutes and the load of some players.”

Arsenal’s current injuries
Emile Smith Rowe sprained his ankle in training and was ruled out of the squad for the match against West Ham. It is unclear when he will return due to the sprained ankle which will take 2-3 weeks and 3-6 months to recover from.

Jorginho is currently battling a foot injury, but it was not serious enough to keep him off the bench in Arsenal’s 6-0 win over West Ham on Sunday.

Gabriel Jesus has suffered another knee injury which is not expected to keep him out for a long period of time, but the club is calm on the actual deadline day.

Oleksandr Zinchenko came off the field at half-time against Liverpool and was not in the squad for Arsenal’s match at the London Stadium and it is unclear when the club expects him to return.

Fabio Vieira was due to return to training in mid-January after back surgery, but he has suffered a setback. The latest reports from his home country said he would return in mid-February.

Thomas Partey has been out since October and suffers setbacks every time he gets closer to a return.

Jurien Timbers has been included in Arsenal’s Champions League squad despite recovering from an ACL injury suffered on the opening day of the season. He could return before the season ends, but that seems risky and unlikely.
